Betting On The 2024 Presidential Election

Political CharacterThe proverbial and all-knowing “they,” whoever they are, are credited for countless bits of colloquial wisdom and sage sayings. One of their absolute best, however, is without a doubt when they say that you should never argue religion or politics. People take these topics very seriously, and someone who’s awash in their political colors can be every bit as dogmatic, maybe even more so, as someone whose religion is worn on their sleeve.

Politics is a nasty business; and not just for politicians. Young progressives run roughshod over campuses in an attempt to make certain forms of speech illegal. Some conservatives will move heaven and earth to have certain science subjects pulled from school and replaced with the Bible. And on it goes. Things in politics get very heated, and the two main American parties are naturally polar opposites and very polarizing. This might make things uncomfortable at a party when the topic of politics comes up, but it certainly makes for fantastic betting fodder.

Betting on who will be the next President of the United States is as old as the country itself. It was and has been a welcomed part of the political process dating back to the first Presidential election in 1789.

That’s right: While one should avoid arguing politics, the same shouldn’t be said about betting politics. Rather than getting down in the muck and mire and discussing any Iranian nuclear deal or what a living wage is, deal with politics in a way that’s comfortable and a lot more lucrative. Betting on the politician you think will win can be a great way to earn some cash.

Political betting works exactly like sports betting. You get to pick the politician or party you think will win the election, and you bet the line. You can take futures, the moneyline, or you can even find some props on which to wager. This isn’t some niche segment of betting or something that’s brand new to the scene. Political betting is a well-established branch of wagering and many people take full advantage of it. Of course, your options extend only so far as the politicians comprising the race.

Politicians in the Running for the Presidential Election, And Their Odds

The focus of Political Betting Sites and the information in our resource guide is the 2020 Presidential Election between the Republican and Democrat Parties. When you really expand your view and look at the race, you will notice that there are independent candidates, Green Party candidates, and others who make an attempt to run. But they’re pretty much shut out of the contest by American media, meaning they get no debate spots, no national sponsorship, and no lines for action on your favorite sportsbook.

It all boils down to Republican and Democrat contenders. That might not seem very fair for everyone else wanting to be elected President, but it certainly does keep things neat and tidy in the betting world. Imagine an NBA section of a sportsbook where Euro league teams were suddenly showing up to play the Cavs and Bulls. Things would be hectic and confusing. This way, you only have the two parties and their front-runners.

Democrats Running For President

The Democratic Party has been the cleaner, sleeker, more popular party since the 1990s in America. While one might hear many nasty things said about the party, one thing you don’t hear is that they’re having a civil war or are infighting in any way. Democrats tend to keep their stuff together, and their tent is far more encompassing than the Republicans’ tent. For instance, Republicans typically require a litmus test to see who’s a real Republican, who’s a conservative, who’s a RINO (R in Name Only), etc. Democrats accept practically everyone, evidenced by their only two main contenders this year, a socialist and a modern progressive.

Republicans Running For President

Every four years the Republicans create an entire circus of contenders to vie for the presidency. This year they had Fiorina, Christie, Huckabee, Santorum, Rubio, Cruz, Trump, Carson, and half a dozen others vying for the nomination. What emboldens so many Republicans to run is that midterm elections see Republicans gain seats over the Democrats.

So, every four years, like clockwork, the Republicans take this as a sure sign that America is in love with them again, and so they bring the circus to town, talk about Republican principles from twenty-seven different angles, and the public ends up siding with Democrats in the general election. It never fails, and Republicans never learn. Though rather than listing out all twenty-something candidates, we’ll focus here on the Republicans actually in the race. Check out the following link if you are interested in betting on who will win the Republican primary election.

  • Donald Trump: Trump has announced his candidacy for reelection in early 2019. Trump still has massive Republican support and will likely be the Republican nominee.
  • Bill Weld: 73-year-old former Governor of Massachuttes announced in April of 2019 he is running for President in 2020.
  • Joe Walsh: Former Illinois Representative Joe Walsh announced in August of 2019 that he is running for President of the United States. Giving that Trump still has massive support among Republicans it is unlikely that Walsh or Weld will get any favorable odds.

The Democrats VS Republicans

Something to chew on before you decide to bet is the fact that Democrats have been the more popular party in America for over 20 years. Literally since Bush the elder ran against Bill Clinton in ’92, Democrats have won the popular vote for President. They won it with Clinton twice, with Gore and Kerry (though not the electoral vote), and with Obama twice.

So when it comes to the party more likely to win the presidency, it’s going to be the Democrats by default, until which point something happens to change that, aka Trump. Now, that’s not to say that the Republicans wouldn’t win by capturing enough electoral votes, or perhaps some serious controversy breaks surrounding the Democrats, but for right now America seems to be a center-left nation, much to the dismay of people who have long called it a center-right nation.

When betting, just keep in mind that America, by and large, has favored voting Democrat since the early 1990s. That tidbit may help guide your bet and could help you actually win.

Presidential Prop Bets

Another thing to keep in mind when betting on politics is that you never have to be trapped by betting on just one politician to win one race. With some of the sportsbooks we review on Political Betting Sites, you will find a wide selection of proposition bets, wherein you can bet on which state carries which candidate, how large a margin they overcome or lead by, how many hours it takes before they concede, and much, much more. Many props are spurred by the betting community, and so you can find some cool stuff on which to place your money. Just be aware of the props section of a sportsbook when betting. You may be able to end up making some serious cash if you land the props right.

Outside Elections On Which to Bet

Before we wrap up here, we just want to skip being remiss by only focusing on the Presidential Election of 2020. The fact of the matter is that most major sportsbooks carry politics around the calendar year. While the USA only has so many elections, you can find UK elections and other locations in Europe, and many different local elections that keep those lines pouring out.

So if you wanted to bet on the UK’s next Prime Minister, or on which state elects which senator, you can find a wide variety of political options at a great sportsbook. The run for America’s next president is undoubtedly the big one, but it’s far from the only one. Stay tuned to our site and find out about which sportsbooks are offering which betting lines, and on which types of elections you can place your wagers.
