Betting On The Democratic Primary Nominee

Democrat logoSomething that most Americans have learned about presidential races is that they’re never a foregone conclusion. While many people had John Kerry thumping George W. Bush after the USA entered into nasty wars overseas, Bush was still able to carry more electoral votes and end up serving another four years. And in ’12, when everybody thought Obama would wipe the floor with Romney, the race ended up a lot closer than most had thought.

It’s hard to convince the majority of a nation to side with your politics and against your opponent’s, and so most elections are tight and aren’t landslides. The tight fashion of primaries is even more exciting. It’s rare that one politician just runs away with a primary. While the field will typically be whittled down to only two or three strong candidates, it usually is a race to the finish. These tight races make politics a natural topic for online betting. At political betting sites, we’re all about delivering the political information to you so that you can make wise, winning bets on politicians.

The Democratic Primary

For people who can still remember back to 2008, you may already be very familiar with how party primaries work. You may remember that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were neck-and-neck going into the home stretch in ’08, and Obama barely squeezed by Hillary after the financial collapse hit and people started viewing Hillary and her wealthy self as inherently part of the problem. That was one of the most famous primary races in history. And this year’s primary season is already shaping up to be just as close.

On the Republican side of the aisle, politicians need a little over 2,400 delegates to win the nomination, while Democrats need over 4,700. The fix isn’t in here. The fact is that there are simply many more Democratic delegates in each state than Republicans, so the Democratic nominee needs a lot more.

Democrat Front-Runners

Joe Biden

Joe has become a front runner because of his name recognition stemming from his time at former President Barrack Obama’s side. Joe was a vice-president for 8 years and has made a name for himself as a career politician. Biden has been at odds with many of the current democratic candidates but still manages to find his name at the top of the ballot list.

Elizabeth Warren

Elizabeth Warren is making herself a household name by picking fights with Trump and big corporations. Her plans align with Bernie but she wants to take it a step further. Elizabeth is a 70-year-old Senator from Massachusetts and has made a name for herself in politics over the past decade.

Bernie Sanders

Who could forget Bernie and how Hillary did him wrong in the 2016 election. Bernie’s politics have always revolved around universal healthcare, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and other issues that deal with government services. Bernie is a top-three candidate going into the 2020 election year.

Pete Buttigieg

Hailing from Indiana, Mayor Pete has made a name for himself by delivering his values and beliefs clearly and with great poise. Basically an unknown, Pete is now sitting at the top of the odds looking towards the Democratic nomination. Keep an eye on this guy, he is a sleeper pick that could heat up at the right time.

Why Today’s “Democrats” are So Popular

You may notice our use of quotation marks around the word “democrats” above. Well, that is certainly no mistake. This is because the idea of a Democrat in 2020 is a far cry from a Democrat in 1996. For example, Democrats in the ’90s, like Bill Clinton, were fiscally moderate and very apprehensive about conflict. They were also all about reforming the welfare system.

Today’s Democrats, however, are progressive liberals, and they’re all about spending as much money as it takes to stimulate the entire economy. They’re all about using drone strikes and are very aggressive in conflict, just not in occupation. And they’re also about removing all welfare reforms to allow an unlimited supply of government funds to be funneled where they feel they are most needed. Today’s values jibe more with millennials.

When polled, millennials believe that the freedom of speech is not as important as protecting a person’s feelings, and a majority of today’s younger generation believe that a “living wage” should be provided to people as a right without having to work for it. In essence, the Democrats of the ’90s were indiscernible from the moderate Republicans of today, and today’s Democrats are almost indistinguishable from the Communist sympathizers McCarthy once tried to have culled from existence.

But one can see why today’s more progressive politicians are more popular. They’re all about taking from the haves to give to the have-nots, and instead of preaching personal responsibility and telling people to grow a thicker skin, they’re all about letting government be the daddy in the situation, telling people what they can and cannot say and helping people thrive in the nation.

This is the type of government the younger generation has been wanting since the turn of the millennium, and now we see the two most progressive politicians on the Democratic side of the aisle as the front-runners for the nomination. These politicians are progressive because that’s what many Americans want.

It’s also impossible for a Republican to compete with a Democrat when the base literally wants guaranteed payments and earning caps and taxes on a continuing increase until which point an arbitrary “fair share” is reached. The USA is a nation for the people, by the people, and if these progressive principles are what the people want, then that’s what they’re going to get.

Like all things, this too is a trend that will reverse itself. Eventually, personal responsibility and a work ethic will return to replace the calls for other people’s money to solve problems that we’re hearing today. Keep these things in mind when placing your bets. We’re not choosing sides here; we’re just telling you what’s what.
